The Diabetes Research Center was established in 1977, with the award of a Diabetes Research and Training Center grant from the National Institutes of Health. The mission of the Diabetes Research and Training Center is to:

	Support the growth and development of a scientific base devoted to basic and clinical research related to the causes and treatment of diabetes and it's complications.
	Support translational research targeted to the prevention and treatment of diabetes and it's complications, especially in minority and underserved populations
	Provide a pilot and feasibility program to support initiation of research programs in diabetes-related areas that are both biomedical and behavioral
