Baby Team

Baby Team is a family-centered intervention program for children ages 3 to 18 months and their parents or primary caregivers.  The program provides services necessary to improve children's skills in their areas of deficit, while strengthening all areas of development and supporting families in caring for their child with special needs.  After a complete diagnostic evaluation, children and families are assigned a primary therapist on the Baby Team who provides intervention, education, support and case management in consultation with the multidisciplinary Baby Team staff, as well as the referring CERC diagnostic unit.

Miniteam

Miniteam is an interdisciplinary intervention program for children aged 15 to 30 months and their parents or primary caregivers.  The program provides group intervention designed to teach children and families activities to improve the children's areas of deficit and enhance their areas of strength.  Children entering this program usually have speech and language delays or mild motor deficits, attention and behavior management issues, all of which may impede the acquisition of age appropriate play, peer interaction and learning of skills.

Central to the philosophy of the Miniteam is the participation of  parents and caregivers in the therapy process.  Therapists model activities for caregivers to engage in with their children.  Support to the family is provided within the context of a discussion group led by a social worker.

  • The Pre-School Program prepares young children for a positive learning experience by helping parents and caregivers read to their child, improve the child's language and vocabulary skills, enhance the child's attention span and develop other "reading readiness" skills.
  • The Psychoeducational Services Program focuses on school-age children and adolescents.  Treatment goals include improvement in self-esteem, attitude toward school, academic skills, attention, and the ability of students to manage their school work and complete assignments.  Appropriate social interactions are also addressed.  Parents receive ongoing support in the behavioral and academic management of their child through follow-up appointments and support groups.
  • The Adult Literacy Program provides diagnostic and consultation services to adults with suspected learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders.  Psychoeducational treatment and counseling are provided to selected adults 21 years of age and over who have extreme difficulty in reading despite normal intelligence.
  • The Program for Technology and Learning Disabilities, primarily located in the Florence G. Roswell Learning and Technology Center, employs state-of-the art approaches to help improve client’s reading, math and study skills.

The Fisher Landau Center for the Treatment of Learning Disabilities is located on the 2nd floor of the Rousso Building, 1165 Morris Park Avenue, telephone (718) 430-3900.
