Obtaining
a License

The Principal Investigator wishing to use radioactive
material must submit an Application for Non-human Use of Radioactive
Material form along with a copy of his/her CV and a map of the laboratory (see
below to obtain a copy of the application). The application request is forwarded to the
RSO who will review it and forward it to members of the Committee if he finds it complete
and accurate. The Committee members will review the application request and notify the RSO
of their decision on the request. The approval may include stipulations that the Principal
Investigator uses additional precautions or provide additional information. The Principal
Investigator will be notified in writing regarding his/her request.
The Radioactive Materials License is good for 2 years, after
which the RSO will notify the Principal Investigator that he/she must renew his/her
license in order to continue use of material. The Principal Investigator will be asked if
he/she wishes to renew the license or terminate it. Even if the Principal
Investigator is on "Inactive Status", he/she must
renew an expired license. This insures that if the Principal Investigator
decides to once again use radioactive material, the license will be current.
