Donor Gifts Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz, longtime Benefactors of Einstein, donated $7 million to establish the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program, which will bring together Einstein scientists to design new methods for promoting the health of Bronx residents. The Program also will help launch major studies to identify lifestyle and environmental factors that cause cancer, and will implement cancer prevention initiatives focusing on smoking cessation, exercise, healthy nutrition and obesity prevention. The Alpern Family Foundation has generously pledged $1.5 million in support of a new Core Facility for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine. This facility will be housed at the Michael F. Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine/Harold and Muriel Block Research Pavilion. Sylvia Olnick, a member of Einstein’s Board of Overseers, has pledged $1 million to establish the Sylvia and Robert S. Olnick Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research. Associate Dean Emanuel Genn has pledged $100,000 to establish an endowment to support professional staff development. Manny Genn has been with Einstein for 36 years.

A luncheon entitled, “Thinking Pink: Great Minds & Hearts Partnering for the Cure,” co-sponsored by the Albert Einstein Cancer Center and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, was held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. The co-honorees for this event, which raised money for breast cancer research, were Marilyn Resnick Katz, founding chairperson of the Cancer Research Advisory Board, and the Honorable Nancy G. Brinker, founder of the Komen organization. This project represents a first-time partnership between Einstein and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Winter Carnival Family Day—an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Westchester/Fairfield Chapter of the Women’s Division, was held on January 13, 2008, at Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase. NY. Over 300 people attended the event, which raised more than $40,000.
