Stanford Goldman, M.D., Class of 1965, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Uroradiology at the Abdominal Radiology Course, a combined meeting of the Society of Uroradiology and Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists in Rancho Mirage, CA in February 2008. Dr. Goldman is professor of diagnostic and interventional imaging and urology at Baylor College of Medicine and clinical professor of radiology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.  He is also a full professor working in the fields of chest and abdominal imaging and is section chief of uroradiology at the University of Texas. Dr. Goldman is the 1996 Distinguished Alumnus at Einstein.


Barbara Barlow, M.D., Class of 1967, director of surgery at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City and director of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, was presented with the Lewis and Jack Rudin New York Prize for Medicine and Health. Dr. Barlow received the $50,000 award for her work in making Harlem and communities around the nation safer for children and their families; she donated the award to the Injury Free Coalition for Kids. Dr. Barlow is the 1999 Distinguished Alumna at Einstein.


Robert S. Sherwin, M.D., Class of 1967, the C.N.H. Long Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and director of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation and the Diabetes Endocrinology Research Center, received the American Diabetes Association’s prestigious Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement Award recognizing significant, long-term contributions to the understanding of diabetes, its treatment and/or prevention. Dr. Sherwin is the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus at Einstein.


Stephen Atwood, M.D., Class of 1972, is the recipient of Dartmouth College's Lester B. Granger '18 Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award recognizes Dr. Atwood's work in international public health care, which began in 1986, when he joined CARE International in India, as senior primary health care advisor and director of CARE's new Primary Health Care Unit. His dedication to international public health also includes serving as the UNICEF regional advisor for health and nutrition in the organization's East Asia and Pacific Regional Office; working as UNICEF Indonesia's director of emergency operations following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami; and serving as advisor to UNICEF Timor-Leste, in Dili, responding to conflict in that country. Dr. Atwood received the Alumni Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.


Alumni Events

In March, Dr. and Mrs. Allen Spiegel hosted a dinner, sponsored by the Einstein Alumni Association, at the Yeshiva University Museum at the Center for Jewish History. The dinner honored alumni who made leadership contributions at the Dean's Club levels of giving and recognized Dean’s Circle annual fund contributors for their generous support of the medical school in the past year.


Upcoming...

Reunion 2008, celebrating five-year anniversary reunions for classes ending in 3’s and 8’s, will take place on May 18-19. The Gala Reunion Dinner will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 and a "Back to the Bronx" day on Monday, May 19 will bring alumni back to the Einstein campus. The dinner will take place at 5 p.m. at the Harmonie Club in NYC, and "Back to the Bronx" will begin at 10:30 a.m. and includes a preview of the Price Center, campus tour and an alumni-faculty luncheon.
