DEPARTMENT OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY

A405  Clinical Clerkship in Otolaryngology - Montefiore Medical Center and Long Island Jewish Medical Center

This 4-week rotation is designed for students interested in careers in Family Practice, Medicine, Pediatrics and Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.  Students will obtain skills in the clinical examination and diagnosis of problems in the Head and Neck including otoscopy, nasal endoscopy and laryngoscopy for both adult and pediatric patients.  They will learn and participate in the basics of airway management, sinus disease and hearing disorders, cancers of the head and neck as well as general ear, nose and throat anatomy and disease.  Students are expected to be an active part of the otolaryngology team, supplement their clinical exposure with reading, and participate in office hours with attendings.  Amply opportunity will be created for student to observe or assist with surgical procedures, tailored to each individual's interest.  One-two weeks of the month may be spent in the Department of Otolaryngology at Long Island Jewish Hospital.  In addition, students are expected to attend all conferences and give a brief presentation on a topic related to otolaryngology at the end of the rotation.

Every effort will be made to adjust the curriculum to meet each student's unique goals.  We welcome questions in advance of registration or participation.
