DEPARTMENT OF UROLOGY
The Department of
Urology offers electives in both adult and pediatric urology. Medical
students will become integrated into the clinical environment in ward
rounds and teaching conferences, clinics, and surgical procedures. By
working closely with the urology residents and faculty, students will learn
to develop appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies related to
genitourinary disease that will be helpful for their future practice of
medicine.
The elective can be tailored by the student to concentrate on
urologic trauma, oncology, endourology, sexual dysfunction, female urology
and infertility. Students are encouraged to participate in clinical research
projects whose completion may lead to publication.

The elective is available
to Einstein students who wish to learn general urology or to be introduced
to more specific areas of the surgical specialty. The students will work
as supervised sub-interns with individual patient responsibility at either
the M.C. or WHAECOM
SITE. Each full-time member of the department practices general urology
and has a subspecialty and arrangement can be made by the student to spend
time with that individual faculty member.
Those faculty are:
Dr. David Honig-
endourology, ESWL and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Norman Kahan -
prostatic cancer I125 therapy and female urology, Dr. Gattu lal Karwa
- renal transplant, Dr. Arnold Melman - perineal surgery, erectile dysfunction,
and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Mark Noss - male infertility, Dr. Reza
