Welcome
to the Office of Academic Support & Counseling (OASC)
website at the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Medical
school can be a challenging
experience. One reason for this difficulty
is that more is expected of you than in your college years and the
curriculum requires a greater percentage of your personal time. For a
recent college graduate, you may find that your previous approaches to
studying are no longer enough to secure a good performance on an exam. For
students who completed college a number of years ago and are pursuing
medicine as a second career, the transition from "colleague" to "student"
can also be difficult. For students with families, the transition may not
only affect you, but also your loved ones.
The OASC strives to provide students a variety of different
services to help make some of these transitions easier so students are able to
best actualize their potential.
Below is a list of the various services we provide.

Academic
Support: Forms of
academic support include individually tailored consultations with
students, responses to questions about academic issues, basic science
exam reviews, USMLE advisement,
and support in the clinical years.
Peer
Tutoring: Peer
tutoring is available to all students taking basic science courses.
Through peer tutoring, you have the opportunity to work individually or
within a group setting with second and third year students who have
excelled in their coursework. Through this program, you can learn more
effective study strategies, reinforce course material, and work with
others who are facing similar challenges.
Personal
Counseling: Our
personal counseling services cover a vast spectrum. Students can
schedule an appointment to discuss study skills and time management
issues. Students experiencing academic or emotional difficulties are
encouraged to come to the office to access needed resources. Insurance
and referral information is available on-site. Additional information
and resources such as hotline numbers, advice on how to manage
emergencies and suggested readings are also available on this website.
Accommodations:
Students who are in need of accommodations for exams can come to our
office to access these services. Information on our website
includes how to apply for accommodations or request time-limited
assistance in cases of illness or injury.
The
OASC operates out of the Office of Educational
Resources and works closely with other Education Department offices
including the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Instructional Support Services, the Office
of Diversity Enhancement, and the Registrar. OASC is located in the Belfer Building, room 206C.
