BASICS
(Using the Computer and PowerPoint):
This class is expressly geared for beginners. We encourage
people to take this class as often as they like until they feel
completely comfortable with the material before moving on to
other classes. While the focus of the class will be the
basics of PowerPoint, the session will also deal with issues
related to finding files on the computer, printing, using the
mouse, and keyboard shortcuts.
Computer
Decision Support in Medicine: This class looks at how computer
technology has changed the practice of medicine.
Participants will have hands on opportunities to use a variety
of database and web resources to "work a case".
PowerPoint
Internet Images: This class assumes
participants are comfortable with the basics of using a computer
file system, a mouse, and PowerPoint. The class will focus
on acquiring images from the Internet and other sources and
incorporating them into a PowerPoint presentation. It will
also discuss issues related to scanning, printing, and
copyright.
PowerPoint Animations:
This class assumes participants are comfortable
with the basics of using a computer file system, a mouse, and
PowerPoint. The class will focus on different techniques
to incorporate motion and animation into PowerPoint
presentations. It will also explore the drawing tools and
specific examples as to why animation is helpful (or not) for
particular aspects of a presentation.
Excel
Data Presentation: This class assumes participants are
comfortable with the basics of using a computer file system, a
mouse, and Excel. The class will focus on taking data and
turning it into presentable tables and charts and incorporating
these figures into a PowerPoint presentation. Obscure
features such as adding error bars and confidence intervals will
be shown.
Photoshop
Elements I - Introduction: This class assumes participants are
comfortable with the basics of using a computer file system and
a mouse. The class will give a broad overview of Adobe
Photoshop Elements including menu layouts, tools, and file
management. A comparison of features between Photoshop
Elements and Photoshop Professional will also be
discussed. People who are unsure of their skill level
should take the BASICS class before taking this class.
Photoshop
Elements II - Selection Tools and Techniques: This class will
focus on using Photoshop Elements selection tools.
Examples will be shown that highlight the strength of each
tool. Participants must take the Photoshop I class before
taking this class.
Photoshop
Elements III - Layering Tools and Techniques: This class will
focus on using Photoshop Elements layering tools. Masking,
blending, opacity, and other special effects will be
covered. Participants must take the Photoshop II class
before taking this class.
Photoshop
Elements Workshop: Participants must take the Photoshop III
class before taking this class. Participants should bring
images with them to this class to work on (on ZIP or CD).
Techniques for repairing poor images, correcting color, adding
arrows and labels will be covered as requested by participants
and as time permits.
